URL Rewriting
Posted by: Jason Silva on 19 February 2009 - 20:54:27Greetings
Here at www.techsmart.co.za I was required to make a fairly responsive SEO (Search Engine Optimized) site.
Now one of the ways to get that right is too make a very descriptive and easy URL, for example:
My site currently works on the $_GET['blogid'] principle, www.twofoursix.co.za?blogid=7. Now the problem with this is that most search engines pretty much ignore anything after that "?" (Although google does index my site). A much better way would be www.twofoursix.co.za/blogs/7
At first I was quite confused on how too do this, but after some hectic research (I'll always consider myself a noob developer), I found out how to do exactly that.

A coding suggestion should you use URL rewriting. You'll need too implement a fairly hectic page builder class. Sometime in the future, I'll give you a example class of how to make something like that.
Till then, Enjoy!

PC HW Manufacturers
Posted by: Jason Silva on 5 December 2008 - 6:36:11Too hell with them all!
I'm beyond convinced now that all pc hardware are designed to have flaws in them. They are designed to break after a while if random.randrange(0, 10, 2) == 3: breakDrive() else luckyYou()
My ST500320AS (500gb) Seagate harddrive, little more than one month old decides that enough is enough and gives it all up. PC can't even detect it anymore, plug it into a friends pc and still nothing. Now what exactly could cause the drive too fail in the time period of windows shutting down -> me going to work -> come home -> turn on pc and drive is dead. The drive wasn't even used in the 10 minutes of yesterday morning.
It's definitely not a heat issue, Drive would idle at 29'C, load would give 35'C.
Too hell with PC HW Manufacturer's, you bastards design your hardware to have faults in them. My Samsung 2232GW LCD Monitor, not even 2 hours into using it and I'm given 2 stuck LCD's. The best thing of all, they say they can only swop it out if there are 3 stuck pixels. Convinient isn't it?
Why are PC HW Manufacturer's allowed to manufacture faulty/flawed hardware AND get away with it?
Too hell with you all, bunch of greedy assholes.
Template 2
Posted by: Jason Silva on 1 December 2008 - 16:59:02Funny enough, after being subjected to this blogs look time and time again, I'm beginning to like it.
So this begs the question, as a first time visitor, what do you think of the look and layout of the site? While I understand that is is not complete, but what do you think as a first time visitor. This is quite important to know.
I've had multple arguments with my project manager about the look and feel of a website, personally I believe that the very first time you see a website, you accept it for what it is. The look, feel, layout, colours & everything else. Your first impressions so to say, but one that you don't generally think about later on.
Now why did I (as the creator) start off disliking the look and feel of the website, and eventually began to start liking it.
Let me know your opinion or am I just talking straight out kak?

As much as I dislike the look of this site, it's the only template I can find that I can stomach for a little while.
If you have any template that you think I should look at, please let me know! Im even willing to pay a small fee for it ;)
And Launch!
Posted by: Jason Silva on 19 November 2008 - 23:16:45Welcome!
Finally, after years of putting it off and generally finding lame excuses to not do this site, I've finally pulled together and made the site.
At the moment this site is rather bland, there isn't much content going around, but give it time. I have some freeward projects that I'm working. So be sure to return, it may be something you're interested in.
